Maria Rostock

I was born in Manchester in 1956 and for as long as I can remember I have had a pencil in my hand. When I was younger, I had the pleasure of working at a zoo, where I developed my love of animals. I spent a lot of time studying and drawing these fantastic creatures. I have always used graphite but it seemed a natural progression onto coloured pencils, I love to use both.

I have had the pleasure to host two exhibitions of my work, but now concentrate on pet commissions. I prefer to work from actual sketches, using photographs as a secondary source. When using this method you may not be able to capture as much detail but hopefully you do capture the animal’s personality.

I mainly use Derwent Artists and Studio pencils, although I have used Prismacolor too.
