This portrait is of my younger son, Rory, taken from photographs I took in France when he was nine years old. I loved the light filtering strongly through the leaves above his head, and I found it really challenging trying to get this right in the drawing. I started drawing this in April, but was so busy with teaching, that it was October before it was finished—far too long to have one image on the drawing board.
