Below are instructions for joining the UKCPS discussion Group at yahoo.com. Please come and join in if you are a member of the Society. If you are not a member, you can have a look, but will be kicked out fairly promptly I am afraid! So why not join us?

First, you need Internet access and an e-mail address. Probably, if you are reading this, you have those!

To join the group, you first need a YAHOO ID. This is just a name and address by which Yahoo, the people who provide the group facilities, will recognise you. If you do not already have a Yahoo ID, go to http://groups.yahoo.com/ Click on this link and you will be taken to that site.

Click on REGISTER, and give yourself a name and hand over your e-mail address. Then go to http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ukcps/ And click on “Join This Group”. You should then get a joining message, and you will be able to use all of the facilities.

We have FILES—where everyone posts pictures of work—BOOKMARKS—links to our websites—and occasional VOTES online as well as the messages. You will straight away start receiving messages—up to 20 a day from this busy group! If you do not want to do this, or find you cannot keep up, go to the group site — http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ukcps/ - and click on “Preferences”. You should be able then to set the e-mail you receive to:

- all messages

- one daily digest only—one e-mail containing all of the messages sent that day -

or No e-mail—which means you have to go to the site to read messages

This is entirely up to you. Please do not just give up and leave the group. Even if you set to no mail, you can still get into all of the group files, and see all of the wonderful work in there. Some words of warning—some people have noticed an increase in SPAM– unsolicited mail—since joining the group. This is a widespread feature of Internet life nowadays. No viruses will be passed on through the group as it is set up so that attachments are not permitted, but it is possible for people to get your address from the group and pass on viruses direct. Make sure you are adequately protected. We hope you join us!
