Gary Theobald

Born in London in 1959, I am a self-taught artist living in Suffolk with my wife Deborah and our two children.

Since picking up my first fine art coloured pencil I have been constantly surprised at how versatile this under-valued medium can be.  Although I have never had any formal art training, I hope that my love of drawing and of using this wonderful medium, shows through in my work.

As a founder member, award winner and holder of silver signature status with the Society, I am delighted to see  how far we have come as a body of artists and I look forward to seeing our medium attain the levels of popularity and acceptance it so justifiably deserves.

I enjoy teaching coloured pencil painting techniques and drawing, both locally in Suffolk and to Art Groups around East Anglia. I am an accredited demonstrator for Derwent Cumberland Pencil Company and my work can be found in private collections in the UK and Europe.

I exhibit locally, and have had a number of successful solo exhibitions, including a one-man show at the National Horse Racing Museum in Newmarket.

I accept commissions and welcome visitors to my new Studio/Gallery at "The 1st Floor Gallery",  in Haverhill, please also browse my website for more examples of my work.

I also offer one-to-one tuition in "Basic Drawing Skills" and "Coloured Pencil Painting Techniques". Sessions can be arranged for any weekday afternoon, and any time Saturday (09.00 to 5.00). All materials will be provided and all levels of ability are welcome. Tuition Rate - £12.00 per hour.
