David Richards
I
was born and raised, and still reside in Mid Wales, It is here, in this
spectacular rural countryside I find my inspiration. The landscape
ranges from craggy mountainsides, and isolated small communities, to
beautiful valleys abundant in streams, waterfalls and lakes; together
with the wildlife of this area the range of subjects in all seasons is
endless. The challenge for me is to create an image, which captures the
light, movement and life of the subject so that it may be brought into
the home.
I
grew up with pencils and paper always to hand and was encouraged to
paint and draw by my parents. However, I pursued a career in
Engineering, primarily in Industrial Design and draughting, and have no
formal art training. Many years later I have now gradually renewed my
interest in art, starting with watercolours and then pastels. More
recently I have enjoyed pen and ink, and graphite work with a more
realistic, detailed approach which is more my natural style.
The
desire to introduce more colour into my work took me through
watercolour washes and then to coloured pencils. It is viewing coloured
pencil art online [at UKCPS and various sites] that I have recently
become aware of many very talented artists and the incredible results
they achieve in this medium. Here is a medium which allows the control
and the detail which can be achieved with ink but with the richness of
colour that I would associate with pastels.
My
experience with coloured pencils is very limited, and the challenge
of exploring different techniques is most satisfying. I would encourage
anyone to get involved with this medium, and am looking forward to
learning more. I have found the amount of information and genuine help
from practising artists available online to be of immense value and
help. Contact details:
