I
have always loved drawing and could always be found with scraps of
paper covered with drawings and cartoons that I had done. (Especially
when I should have been doing something else). My mother used to buy me
rolls of lining paper as it was less expensive than hundreds of drawing
pads.
I am self taught, although I have picked up
hints and tips from books and other artists, who, I find are always
eager to help when you are interested in what they do.
I started painting in watercolours
about 12 years ago, after not doing anything since leaving school, over
30 years ago, also experimented with pastel, oils and acrylics. I have
sold a number of paintings, which is thrilling, as I only paint things
I enjoy, especially animals.
I was fascinating with the idea of coloured
pencils after watching a gentleman at the Patchings Festival earlier
this year. So immediately bought some and started.
I am using Faber-Castell pencils and
experimenting with different paper. The lion I have drawn is on canvas,
not the brightest idea I have ever had, but has not turned out too bad
for a beginner with them.
I love working with them and I have found they
have made me take my time and think more about the planning of the work
beforehand.
I am thoroughly enjoying looking at the UKCPS
site and have already learnt a great deal from it.
