Hibbs
I
am lucky enough to live on Guernsey, the second largest of the Channel
Islands, with my husband and two boisterous boys.
Art
was always my forté at school and I left with 'A' levels in
Art,
Photography and English. I went into apprenticeship (long before the
days of GNVQs!) as a Production Artist and ended up as assistant to the
Creative Director in a major advertising agency. I then moved to an
in-house creative team and after 10 years, ended up as head of Creative
Services. It was time to move out of the comfort zone, so I then set-up
my own business which I ran for 5 years.
With
all that going on, I had very little time (or inclination!) to
carry on with my sketching. Since having the children, I have returned
to work part-time and re-discovered my sketch pad as a form of
relaxation. I never really found a paint medium which suited me, and
feel I have arrived rather late to the colour pencil party!
I'm
still at the stage of experimenting with different types of pencil
and drawing surface (and it's costing me a small fortune!), but I'm
thoroughly enjoying this medium - I particularly enjoy the control it
gives when drawing different textures.
I
discovered the UKCPS website, and the standard of the work on the
members' gallery is breath-taking and a constant source of inspiration
and encouragement. Any hints, tips, advice or help will be greatly
appreciated!
