Whilst in
India, I passed a group of
children when travelling through a remote village near Jaipur. They
were
fascinated by our presence—hence the title!
I
used the excellent base surface of white
‘Stonehenge’ paper and only Caran d’Ache
“Classicolour” pencils, lightly
building up and layering the colours to obtain tonal depth. Much
attention was
concentrated on the light and shadow qualities of the two heads and
especially
featuring the enigmatic eyes. Finally, I decided to put garment details
very
lightly to give more prominence to the heads.
