Karen Coulson
I
started drawing again in 1999 after a break of about 16 years, since
leaving Art College where I studied fashion and design. Due to other
commitments my time for drawing was quite limited. However I have now
left my job in order to concentrate on my art work.
I use mainly Caran D'ache Prismalo and Supra color pencils. At the
moment I prefer to work on coloured mountboard. I love to draw animal
portraits, both wild and domestic, and I undertake a lot of dog
portrait commissions.
In
2004 I achieved signature status with the UKCPS. I also joined Marwell
(zoo) art society , and have started to exhibit in their annual summer
exhibitions.
In
2005 I was thrilled to sell my first "Marwell" picture, a grumpy
looking tiger!
In
spring 2005 I was delighted to win first prize at the Keswick "World of
coloured pencil exhibition" with my picture "Longleat Lions".
In
August 2005, I had my first solo exhibition at Hanger Farm Arts Centre,
Southampton. It was hugely successful and I am planning to exhibit
there again in 2006. I also plan to exhibit at Marwell and to enter the
UKCPS exhibitions.
I
also started a local members group of the UKCPS for south Hampshire,
meeting every 6-8 weeks at either at my house in Romsey or in
Waterlooville near Portsmouth. It is great fun, we have people of all
abilities and we all exchange tips and ideas.
I
welcome all enquiries regarding the local group or my artwork and I can
be contacted at the address below.
