ANGELA CATER
Angela Cater was born in Chesterfield,
Derbyshire in 1967 and has been painting all her life. Her school and
family home was adorned with her pictures. On leaving school, she
supplemented her meagre YTS wage by sketching workmates' favourite film
and pop-stars, her best-seller being the Pope in the year he visited
the UK!
As a mature student, she took the Foundation
course in Art and Design at Chesterfield College of Technology and
Arts, before studying on the BTEC HND in Design and Advertising at
Doncaster College.
She now lives in Manchester with a family of
elderly cats who have been regular models for years. They appear in
many guises in her bright, gouache and coloured pencil illustrations.
"Handsome" Samson, who at the grand age of 15 recently won second place
in a competition to find the world's cutest pet, is soon to appear in
his own children's book as the character cat "Sailor Sam". She is also
the illustrator of "Rickie the Raccoon Learns about Recycling" by
Canadian writer, Giovanna Lagana.
Additionally, Angela uses coloured pencil
for both animal and human portraiture. She was a regular exhibitor at
the "Wild About Art" wildlife exhibition in Sheffield and five times a
finalist in the "Paint a Wildlife Subject" competition.
Angela is a signature member of the UKCPS
and has recently retired as editor of Talking Point. She self-publishes greeting cards of her
work and is happy to accept commissions.
