Wilfrid
Barbier
Wilfrid is a self-taught artist. Born in a
rural area of the north-west part of Québec (Canada) where
he spent most of his childhood, he developed a love for nature and the
beauty of its landscapes, people and animals.
Although he painted and drew for the most
part of his teens and early manhood, he found himself in a constant
internal battle...Low self esteem and lack of confidence in his
capabilities as an artist resulted in a twenty year separation from his
easel and paints.
Then; one day in the in 2001 his youngest
son asked him if he could draw something for him, and an old flame was
re-kindled.
Since that day the color pencils have hardly
left the paper. Coloured pencils are by far still his medium of choice
but he likes to use graphite now and then. Specialized mostly in city
and landscapes, he also likes to treat other subject matters like
portraits and animals.
A member of the CPSA, Wilfrid has
participated in many group exhibits as well as solo showings across
Québec. His beautiful drawings now hang in many homes both
here in Canada and in the U.S.A.
A child, a coloured pencil and a flame...
