Steve Abbott
Hi
I am Steve Abbott and I have enjoyed art all of my life but became
seriously ill in 1992 which put me in a serious illness ward for four
weeks. In hospital patients would sit at my bedside and watch me with
three or four water-soluble pencils, a brush, a glass of water and some
good watercolour paper. I would sit, draw and paint, hiding the fact
that I didn't think I would get out of hospital. Most of the patients
said that they would love to be able to draw so it became my aim to get
out of this scary place and start sharing the knowledge I have in art.
I
am now an art lecturer, entertainer and teacher. I teach drawing and
painting techniques at night schools and can be seen at the Derwent
Pencil Museum in Keswick. I support the museum as a demonstrator where
I have loads of fun, opening the doors to everyone to show them how
they can draw. I have managed an art project for the last three years.
It was called ALIA Adults Learning In Art and (me and my students) have
exhibited drawings and paintings in:- Stockport - UK , Syros - Greece,
Madrid - Spain, Bansko - Bulgaria, Middlesborough - UK, Rotterdam -
Holland. A great opportunity for me to demonstrate our new pencils
(Graphitint and Inktense) in Europe.
Three
years ago I was a technical illustrator, publications engineer and
Senior Design engineer at BAeSYSTEMS at Woodford Cheshire. I worked for
them for 37 years but my job went to Scotland. I didn't want to go so I
took early retirement. I am also a Silhouette cutter and watercolour
artist but I love pencils. I can now spend as much time as I want doing
what I love most Drawing. I also demonstrate art techniques to
Societies all over the country I am the Chairman of the Society of
Marple Artists which has 120 active members. Where did I find time to

exhibition at Keswick. I was demonstrating at the Big Draw. Hope to see
