Ann Swan
Ann
trained as a textile designer, and began by painting large abstracts in
oils! After an illness in 1988, she started pencil drawing, and a
career in Botanical art. As colour proved more popular than pure
graphite work, she experimented with many media unsuccessfully before
hitting on coloured pencils. In 1994 she had an exhibition with two
other artists at Kew Gardens, and this was a great success. Her work
has been exhibited in the Hunt Institute of Botanical Illustration in
Pittsburgh Pennsylvania, and is in many private collections, including
that of Dr Shirley Sherwood. She has now gained four Gold medals from
the Royal Horticultural Society.
She has a collection of limited edition prints, and sells these from
her site by mail order - www.annswan.co.uk - as well as at
Chelsea and Hampton Court Flower Shows. She teaches at various venues
around the country including the RHS Gardens at Wisley, Cambridge
Botanic Gardens, and as Artist in residence at Nature in Art,
Wallsworth Hall, Gloucester. She has recently moved to a new studio and
runs classes from this - please contact her for details.
